Heritage of Carmel

We are not officially associated with the Carmelite Order. We simply follo

w the Rule of St. Albert, spirit, and traditions of Carmel according to our particular Constitutions. In other words, we belong more to Our Lady of Mount Carmel than to the Carmelite Order of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. However we do have a real share in all of the benefits of the Order of Mount Carmel, as well as a true affiliation with the Order according to the privileges granted by means of the Confraternity of the Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

*Excerpts from EWTN Document Library, “scapular”: “First of all, the vision (of St. Simon Stock 13th century) spoke of this as a privilege for “all Carmelites.” So it is necessary to be in some way affiliated with the Order of Carmel. For most Catholics, this is accomplished through enrollment in the Confraternity of the Scapular. The Bull states, “One who perseveres in holy obedience, poverty and chastity – or who will enter the Holy Order – will be saved.” Then follows the declaration of the Sabbatine Privilege concerning release from purgatory for “others” who wear the holy “habit” of the Order.”

A new Carmel of the Immaculate Virgin

The essence of our “carmelite” identity is understood as “carmelite-marianism”, or transformation in the Immaculate Virgin as expressed concretely by a vow of unlimited consecration to her. This is taken as a single “religious vow” extending itself to include in an explicit way the vows of poverty, celibacy, and obedience.
